“I see the extension from 18 to 21 as a benefit to the community” Jodi Byrne

Any person that can be nurtured and helped along the way which in turn will hopefully have a positive impact, can only be beneficial to the person and the community. I see homeless people every day on my way to work in the City. I live in Melbourne and get off at Flinders Street and on my walk to Collins Street, there are many homeless people. Any effort to keep people off the streets should be made. I don’t believe people tell their own children to leave the house at 18, we should not treat foster kids any different. Even though they may be 18, it doesn’t mean they are ready. Carers need the supports to keep these kids at home for as long as possible.

Every child deserves to be supported into adulthood – extending out of home care until the age of 21 will give thousands of young people the additional guidance they need to have a real shot at life.
